Dr. Fakhreddin Jamali
Director and Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Jamali joined the faculty of the University of Alberta in 1981 and is currently Professor and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Jamali holds a PhD (pharmacokinetics) and an MSc (pharmaceutics) from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, as well as a PharmD from the University of Tehran, Iran. His research interests include the effects of pathophysiological changes on the action and disposition of drugs, stereochemical aspects of drugs action and disposition, basic and clinical pharmacology of analgesic, anti-rheumatic, and cardiovascular drugs, and toxicology of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. He teaches pharmacokinetics and is involved in pharmacy curriculum development.
Dr. Jamali has published over 160 refereed articles and has been an invited speaker at many conferences, and has also trained over 20 PhD students. He is a Theme Leader in the Canadian Arthritis Network (Networks of Centres of Excellence), is a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the American College of Clinical Pharmacology. In recognition of his achievements, Dr. Jamali has received numerous prestigious awards including the McKeen Cattel Memorial Award (American College of Clinical Pharmacology), the McNeil Award (Association of Canadian Faculties of Pharmacy), the DuPont Research Leadership Award (Canadian Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences), and the McCalla Fellowship (University of Alberta).
Dr. Jamali is a member of Health Canada’s TPD Expert Advisory Committee on Bioavailabilty and Bioequivalence. He is the founding president of Canadian Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences, editor of the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, associate editor of the European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Chirality, American Journal of Therapeutics and AAPS PharmSci. Dr. Jamali has also served as a consultant and/or as a member of the Board of Directors of many pharmaceutical houses.
Dr. Ali Aghazadeh-Habashi
Research Scientist
Dr. Aghazadeh-Habashi has extensive experience in pharmaceutics, quality control and manufacturing of pharmaceutical preparations. Dr. Aghazadeh-Habashi holds both a PhD in Pharmaceutics and a PharmD (University of Tehran, Iran). His research interests include bioavailability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of new pharmaceutical products, the study of new drug delivery systems to enhance bioavailability, and the physicochemical properties of medicinal compounds.
Dr. Aghazadeh-Habashi has authored more than a dozen refereed articles and has spoken at numerous pharmaceutical conferences. He has taught courses in physicochemical control of pharmaceuticals, quality control, and pharmaceutical lab and drug information. He has also supervised several undergraduate dissertations. He is a member of both the Canadian Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.
